Gary War Horribles Parade C38 Tape out now
With the 10s standing right on our doorstep, today we release our final item of 2009. Horribles Parade is the second album by Gary War (from Brooklyn, New York). The album has been released by Sacred Bones Records (SBR – 023) on both vinyl and cd earlier this year, but Knife Slits Water released the songs on a medium that we feel suits Gary War’s sound best: a cassette tape – right before the start of the bands first European tour.

Gary War’s music is on the one hand incredibly catchy, on the other very confusing. The listeners ears need to dig through layers of spacy tape manipulations and fuzzy sound effects, analogue synths and watery vocals (that sound like they have been recorded in ancient sewers beneath a city in a far away galaxy), in order to hear the catchy bass hooks, brilliant melodies and psychedelic pop song structures. As a review in Wire magazine read: Horribles Parade is “about as close as pop could possibly get to Noise without losing it’s pop-ness altogether [...] The more you listen, the weirder things get.”
