WOODS – SUNLIT B/W THE DARK 7″
Two brand new songs” “Sunlight” b/w “The Dark.” These guys are pretty unstoppable right now. Really nice. “…we’ve watched [Woods] go from acoustic hush to full-bodied sunburned psych before becoming something that combines both ends of the spectrum into perfectly catchy lo-fi folk rock nuggets. In another time these guys would be living in Laurel Canyon with the Byrds and Frank Zappa, but instead they live in New York, probably listen to A LOT of Grateful Dead bootlegs and make music we could drive forever to if we had cars.”

YOUNG GOVERNOR – VIRGINIA CREEPER/I’M A MESS 7″ EP
YOUNG GOVERNOR is Ben Cook (FUCKED UP, MARVELOUS DARLINGS, NO WARNING, VIOLENT MINDS, etc.), and this is his debut solo record.  ”Virginia Creeper” and “I’m a Mess” were laid down by the Governor at East End Reclusives, in Toronto, Canada, a dumpy practice space responsible for
an impressive amount of recorded work in recent years.  Although more pop-infused than the hardcore stylings of Ben’s present/past, Young Governor solo is arguably as raw and unpredictable as anything he’s done, if not more so.  The needle-pegged, hyperactive pop of “Virginia Creeper” and “I’m a Mess” offer a glimpse of the Governor’s 2009 agenda, and frankly, teasers don’t get any better than this.  Pressed on beautiful lavender vinyl with a full-color sleeve (layout by Matt Wong), limited to 750 copies.

GOLIATH BIRD EATER /SASQROTCH – SPLIT 10″
LA’s rep as a hometown to heaviness is backed up by a lotta props: Richter Scale-wrecking earthquakes, Vin Diesel racing an army camo hummer down Sunset Blvd on a daily basis, Buzz Osbourne loitering at pretty much every flea market within walking distance of a greasy spoon, etc. Oh, and the sick & twisted Sunn amp-manglings emanating from the respective lairs of Goliath Bird Eater and Sasqrotch. Duh. GBE is the half-decade-strong gauntlet through which Eagle Rock-based Teen Choice Award-winner Bobb Bruno gives voice to his solitary metal ruminations, and oftentimes riffs germinate in his brain/fingers for YEARS before being finally committed to 8-track tape. After a string of shaky drummers but SLAYING tapes/CDRs, he solidified shit enough to lock this timeless psych-crusher in the can. “Blood Silk Road” slow-rides a one-note rock monolith into the void before post office local (and Wilco wild card) Nels Cline steps in to wail an absurdly eyeball-shredding guitar solo that crescendos the song into a black light hurricane of repetitious death. Kill me now please. Highland Park’s Sasqrotch cruise in a scummier mindset, rolling together depraved sax attacks, freakish costumes, and even the occasional bouzouki curveball intro into their mythically hirsute spliff before torching it in a blaze of drums and drop-tuned oblivion.
Not Not Fun // € 12.00

SWANN DANGER – S/T 10″
Swann Danger is an Oakland, California based band that includes Andy Zevallos on bass, samples, and drum machine and Cynthia Mansourian on guitars and vocals. This 5 song debut was recorded with Dan Rathbun at Polymorph in Oakland (Dead And Gone, Heart Of Snow, His Hero Is Gone, The Vanishing, The Phantom Limbs). Both Cynthia and Andy were members of the band Heart Of Snow, which put out an ep on GSL before breaking up in early 2002. Swann Danger is doing pretty much the same thing, just better! Slow, dark and claustrophobic songs, somewhat reminiscent of bands like Xmal Deutschland and mid era Siouxsie And The Banshees. 5 songs in about 24 minutes. Död och dekadens!
Release the Bats Records //  €6.00

UTMARKEN COMPILATION 10″  (RTB#50)
Gothenburg 2009. There’s something in the air and something is stirring in the eclectic underground. Brewing magic, movements in every corner and truly exciting times. This is a small document of the first year of Utmarken with four acts contributing one track each.
Street Drinkers, the soloproject of Viktor from Ättestupa, uses layers of synths and vocals to create minimal and dreamy music reminiscent of Wet Hair and Peaking Lights, but with a unique Swedish touch. After the feedback-mayhem on the Gothenburg Blood Cult Tape, Källarbarnen is now back with a more subtle and somewhat mellow track, here using synths, drums, bass and vocals. All lights are out and everything is falling apart. White is Dan from Ättestupa/Sewer Election, and the project should be known from the tapes on Harsh Head Rituals and Segerhuva. Hitting it hard with distorted synthbuzz and vocals, it ends up like the bastard child of Suicide via filth, crime and abuse. Ättestupa ends everything with the best song they have done, a haunting and intense piece called Änglamakerskan. Freezing winds evokes the mean spirit of an long forgotten era. Total Swedish coldness and there is no way back. The 10″ comes with liner notes by Matthias Andersson as well as a photo collage from Utmarken. All tracks were recorded at Utmarken between fall 2008 and spring 2009.

Lovepump United // €14.00

AIDS WOLF VS ATHLETIC AUTOMATION – Split LP
In the wake of their respective debut albums, Providence’s Athletic Automaton and Montreal’s AIDS Wolf came face to face, stripped bare of armor, wielding weapons of choice. With the battle lines drawn, each band tallied forcefully, committing individual tracks to tape. But as the war waged on, members defected from side to side, new alliances were formed, and the hard lines blurred. What emerged from the battlefield was an entirely new entity: bloodied, unbowed, and undefeated. Gatefold-sleeved vinyl LP, intimately designed by Montreal’s Seripop. Athletic Automaton is guitarist Stephen Mattos, formerly of Arab On Radar; and drummer Patrick Crump. AIDS Wolf vs. Athletic Automaton is the dawn of a new age: a crystalline declaration of independence for an uncivilized world
Skin Graft // €11.00

ATTAR CUPS – S/T LP
This Maine based crew features a host of psychedelic jam talent… Nemo of Drona Parva and head honcho of Time-Lag Records, Sparrow Wildchild of The Bummer Road, and the three members of Visitations, whose record on Time-Lag last year was one of 2007’s best! So this is the second recording from this crew, the first being last years Sloow Tape. This beast is different to the Sloow vibe, still with a super nice jam band sound, but projecting to a maybe more ’song’ (in the loosest possible way) based plane, a little like Visitations. Edition of 299 hand numbered copies.
Blackest Rainbow // €12.00

ÄTTESTUPA LP
There is a myth that elders in the old Sweden was thrown down from a big mountain or height when they no longer was for any use in the farms and households. This place was called Ättestupa. And that is the name of a new band from Gothenburg. Dealing with an old era of Sweden, this is music that reeks of plague, desolate countrysides, heathen rituals and long, harsh cold winters. The debut album is a journey back to a forgotten world, an anti-urban masterpiece. With members from Leafes and Sewer Election, it would be easy to call Ättestupa off as an mix of those two acts when it comes to the sound, but there is definitely way more to it than that. With traces of dark folkmusic, 70’s German prog and even some small black metal hints, this is mean-spirited stuff with an truly unique atmosphere. Slow and monotonous percussion, deeply buried vocals, crude electronics and droning guitars, tortured synths and flutes… Extremely lo-fi and extremely bleak. Two tracks (‘Tjälen’ and ‘Den Stora Sjukdomen’) and a playtime of 40 minutes.
Release the Bats // €12.50

BAD DUDES – EAT DRUGS LP
Featuring ex-members of Miracle Chosuke, the Bad Dudes play prog-rock to the max. These Basketball fanatics can sure show you a good time. Impressive dueling guitars, keys a la Zepplin, rawkus bass, and one of the best drummers ever seen…

BARN OWL / TOM CARTER – Split LP
Blackest Rainbow continue there vinyl outings with a superb split by Barn Owl (NNF) and Tom Carter (Charalambides).Their sound is super dreamy and almost spiritual, with slow tribal percussion and lots of spooky atmospherics. Like a trip through a dark mystical forest. Tom Carter’s side of this split LP is a single long piece where he and his guitar become one as he grapples with it to produce a whirlwind of feedback, drones and psychedelic madness.
Blackest Rainbow // €12.00

BEAR BONES LAY LOW – VALLEE DE DITH LP

BILL QUICK – MARAVILLOSA GENTE LP
Long in the works reissue of this amazing and little know gem, “beautiful people”, from 1972. Born in miami florida to an american father and venezuelan mother, bill split the usa to madrid spain in the early 70s. Once there he quickly landed a recording deal with famous producer alain milhaud of the explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole lp release. Sessions went down with an impressive cast of up to eleven players in the studio, including salvador dominguez & chema pellico (cerebrum), jess lam (jess & james), and frank rojas (sangre). One of the albums real hidden treasures, though, was the assistance of unknown texan mark gottschall, who co-wrote the title track and adds perfect vocal harmonies as well a second acoustic guitar. A finely balanced mix of sounds that drifts between throbbing electric full band groove and gentle acidfolk. When bill wants to rock, things get downright funky, with a wickedly hard-hitting rhythm section, pumping organ, scorching electric leads, and flipped out acoustic guitars all locking into some seriously tight jams. Then the next minute the mood swings and you’re deep into some beautifully fragile and introspective folk meditations; often just two acoustic guitars, bill’s lyrics, and huge, angelic, vocal harmonies all weaving together into lush tapestries of sound. A few tracks fill out a more folkrock vibe with flute, autoharp, piano, slide guitar, banjo, and more. The whole album has an air of mystical psychedelia, yet never strays far from pop craft, and there’s a real sun-blasted quality to it all that just makes you want to crank the volume… The album was released only in spain and brazil, to very little interest, and quickly became yet another great album lost to obscurity… Reissued for the first time, packaged in a heavy weight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the totally different brazilian version of the album art. Plus extensive notes by album musicians salvador dominguez & mark gottschall, and alex carretero (guerssen records, spain). Also a small photo of some rare picture sleeves 45s, promotional inserts, lyric sheets, etc. even the lp labels reproduce the original psychedelic full color explosion label art. Pressed on 180gm audiophile grade vinyl & limited to 1000 copies.
Time-Lag Records // € 15.00

BLANK REALM – HEATLESS ARK LP
We’ve touted this Brisbane clan on multiple occasions in the past (the Mind Peril and The Returner tapes on NNF) but they say the third time’s the charm and clearly that’s true because not only is Heatless Ark Blank Realm’s vinyl debut, it’s also by far the weirdest, deepest, punkest, freakiest, aka BEST album the band’s ever made. And so for all these reasons (and more) we are happy as heaven to offer it up for the world. The porous BR line-up allows for a lot of instrumentation flux and this transience translates on record here to a strange range of agendas: open electric ecstasies (“Fabulous Terror Index”), dissonant outsider-wave art-punk (“Saint Tegram,” “Heatless Ark”), loner Jandek-y demos (“Blues Helix,” “Blues Helix 2”), slow-diving femme-sung dream-gaze (“Till I Clear My Own Name”), and beyond. Varied, wild, and intensely ambitious, this LP establishes Blank Realm as high on the high heap of the rich Australian underground, with miles more expansion potential. Hopefully western world touring plans can congeal soonishly to drive the point home. Black vinyl LPs in beautiful metallic ink smoke-ritual jackets (these jpegs don’t do them justice) screenprinted by art-wizard Ryo from Topping Bottoms. Edition of 400.

CHRISTIAN FAMILY UNDERGROUND – FOR THE DEPTH OF YOUR UNION LP
Summer 06 Family Underground (DK) recorded with Dave Nuss of NNCK at Black Dirt Studios in the woods of upstate NY. The yield was as characteristically unhinged as one might expect: sweeping electronic sounds backed with wood and bone percussion spirit-conjure. However also harvested was some new and especially tasty crop: sung and spoken song, electric guitar/conga “rock,” and an odd ghostly sheen coating the entire proceeding. Nuss comments on the session: “I remember when we were recording, momentarily leaving the studio and going out into the night and feeling it thicken like a partition separating us from this intense state of clear consciousness we had in the recording, which was like… humankind’s natural state. And then thinking about Jesper from FU, an adopted Vietnamese living in DK, and how much he resembles Michael Jackson, and realizing that across continents no man can be divided from himself. We had to make this music to provide for us some fantasy of fulfillment that would carry us through the weekend like rejuvenated suns born again climbing to heaven, after being washed in the deepest bluest sea….”

CRYSTAL STILTS – ALIGHT OF NIGHT LP

DATASHOCK – VOL IV LP
Their music is defined almost entirely by psychedelic multidimensional live-improvisations stemming from 70ies Kraut-rock influenced by contemporary electronic music and psychotic dronescapes. If, however, you would want to use other bands from past and present as a reference, names like Tangerine Dream or Sunburned might come to mind. Datashock’s music has a similarly warm and organic feel to it.

DEAD LETTERS SPELL OUT DEAD WORDS – LOST IN REFLECTIONS LP + 7″
Gothenburg based composer and sound artist Thomas Ekelund has delved into a time-consuming investigation of the complex, multi-faceted world of solitude and introspective darkness. His pallet is strictly greyscale, but the tones he uses are deeper, more honest and more heartfelt than anything else out there. Here, hurt is transformed into absolute beauty. And here, dampened drones make pop art.

EAT SKULL – SICK TO DEATH LP
Eat Skull are a quartet hailing from Portland, Oregon, co-masterminded by Rob Enbom (Hospitals / Hole Class) and another original Hospital, Rod Meyer. They bring to the game an extrasensory appreciation of New Zealand’s South Island Sound (Great Unwashed, Axemen), Cleveland art-damage skronk (Modern Art Studio, X-X), and the wretched excess of forgotten Midwest hardcore (Stiff Legged Sheep, Chemotherapy). In other words, just what you need!

EMACIATOR – COVETING 12″
Misery wears many masks, but Tulare, California fatalist Jon Borges has etched his mark on most of them. For at least half a decade he’s pursued increasingly suicidal tendencies under his Pedestrian Deposit guise (which is currently on hiatus), splicing subdued loops of morbid beauty against savage canyons of harsh noise histrionics. Lately, though, he’s been straying more and more from this aggressive exercise in contrasts in favor of his Emaciator alias, which draws from the same dark wellspring of bitter memories and bipolar rage but, instead of unleashing it in grand frenzies, bottles everything up inside until it seeps out the pores. Early efforts/cassettes retained a strain of buzzing nausea reminiscent of his PD days, but the last 12 months have witnessed a complete abandonment of any ties to the past. Times are still bleak, sure, but the grey prisms of brooding ambience Borges now conjures and slowly collapses convey a depth of mood and subtlety far surpassing simple signifiers like Indifference, Resentment, Remorse. Coveting collects together five exquisite Emaciator compositions (including two particularly riveting songs that were debuted live at Echo Curio last winter) for a harrowing 40 minutes of troubled solace, crisscrossing suicide guitar lines, and entranced self-reflection. Meditation is a myth; desire does not sleep.

ETERNAL TAPESTRY – THE INVISIBLE LANDSCAPE
Last year’s Mystic Induction LP captured PDX wah junkies Eternal Tapestry at their hairiest hour, awash in color trails and nightshade flashbacks. Since then they’ve reverted back to their original power trio line-up, circled the tube amps, and written a fresh, flooring set of brand new electric rippers. And The Invisible Landscape is the fruit of this from-bliss-to-blistering evolution/revolution. It’s packed deep with six kraut-punk psych-shredders, huffing fumes from the twin guitar hero dogfighting of Dewey Mahood and Nick Bindeman while drum demon Jed Bindeman does barrel rolls and nosedives into the eye of the storm. There’s also a rawness and warmth to the production that helps the songs bleed into the ear with more electricity than before, and the riff/vocals interplay is streamlined for optimum mainlining. A fiery high point for a fiery high band. Hit it or quit it. Randomly colored LPs (hues range from silt grey to swamp green and beyond) in pro-printed jackets with art by the band plus a photocopied insert. Final repress of 400 copies, mystery-colored vinyl.

EX-COCAINE – ESTA GUERRA LP
On their second effort, Ex-Cocaine throw down hard, evoking a gnarled bonfire with flames that roar thunderously like the detuned and burns evenly like the smelted. Working pretty much from a template of congas and electric fuzz, these heavy mellow bros conjure up swirling eddies of lo-fi, psych that are pretty unbeatable.

Modern Classical Compositions and Medieval vocal music, which the album title, “Secular Works”, refers to.

FACTUMS – ALIEN NATIVES LP

THE FRESH & ONLYS- GREY EYED GIRLS LP
The Fresh & Onlys combine sparkling, frisky new wave that harks back to both the embryonic NZ Dunedin scene & more distinctly post punk era Liverpool! Fuzzy shambling nuggets that come in somewhere between Swell Maps & the Bunnymen but share that kinda oddly focussed lo-fi ghost rock vibe with the likes of Crystal Stilts. The songs are incredibly addictive gems that improve with each listen.
Woodsist Records // € 15.00

GANGLIANS- s/t- 12″ Mini-LP
The album combines elements of the reverb drench garage rock owith a temperament toward lo-fi drum machine bedroom pop. Vocals drift into the stratosphere as every possibility is explored in an attempt to craft the perfect broken pop song. Elements of the Beach Boys can be heard scattered about the record with the suggestion of song writing ambition coupled with a preference for traditional tape based recording techniques. In parts it’s strange and spooky, in parts it’s naive and wild with enthusiasm yet these folks obviously know what they want to achieve and are doing a damn fine job of it too..
Woodsist Records // € 12.00

GARY WAR – GALACTIC CITIZENS  12″ EP
Six-track mini-album from Gary War, which appeared as bonus material on the CD edition of the Sacred Bones album, Horribles Parade. The sound is as fully submerged as on previous releases, with beautiful keyboard melodies and pulsing Syd-era Floyd style bass parts bubbling into vocals that sound as if they have been recorded with microphones wrapped in silver paper. Indeed, at points it sounds as if the music is all F/X, with the original signal removed to the point where all that is coming across the wire is ghostly afterimages and dying waves of reverb and delay. Fantastic modern DIY psych-pop.

An incredible instrumental jam in three chapters recorded at Black Dirt Studios in upstate New York in May 2008 when the two bands met for a tour in the East Coast of the USA. KITES / EART CROWN – SPLIT LP
This is a cold vision of a dark trash covered future full of Sci Fi nightmares and strange out of body experiences.  This is the final Kites recording and is perhaps the strangest and most chaotic piece in the prolific discography.  Annihilation synth and tape collage, cut up, sped up and dialed to oblivion.  Earth Crown steps it back, slows down the pulse, lets the edges of the static curl around the drone to the breaking point, where the damage is let loose, purged out and built again. This LP is a reminder of how cold, desolate, and haunting life can be.  Silkscreened by Shawn Reed, Art by Kites and Earth Crown.

LITTLE GOLD – ON THE KNIFE LP
Christian DeRoeck spent most of the past decade writing, touring & recording with the Brooklyn indie/punk band Meneguar. In late 2006, He and bandmate Jeremy Earl decided to combine their bedroom recordings and release them together, as Woods. In early 2008 Christian left both bands. He teamed up with his old friend, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Edrich (Chain and the Gang), and Little Gold was born. Like his earlier work with Woods, the songwriting is earnes.  Little Gold has begun to incorporate more improvisational and psychedelic sounds into their mellow, country-rock oeuvre.

MAGIC LANTERN – S/T LP
Inspired by the psychedelic approach to musical tone and structure in various eras and genres of rock (not at all excluding Germany and Japan in the ’70s). Over the course of a year they recorded every jam and compiled a full-length’s worth of home-studio demos which later became their self-released CD-R. The jams from their CD-R were used as the blueprints for the band to develop a raw, stripped-down sound that emphasized hypnotic rhythms and improvised guitar duels.

MAGIC LANTERN – HIGH BEAMS LP
For fans of  good old psychedelic rock but this is more sludgey and freeform. It proper rocks man. Nice production sound too. Cool psyche collage insert too. METH TEETH- EVERYTHING WENT WRONG LP
“Meth Teeth reside in Portland OR. and in some ways embody the rainy day big country vibe of the city with its youth culture dreamers, old druggies, and rustic history. There is something that is really hard to pin down about Meth Teeth, the songs rely on simple ramshackle rhythms, upbeat shinny guitar interplay, and big fat chord churners, and alot of tambourine banging away on the snare drum. Ultra catchy summertime rockers keep you sad and lonely, and upbeat and hopeful all at once.”—Shawn Reed/Night People

MOUNTAINHOOD – DEATH POD LP
Brand new one sided LP from Michael Curtis Hilde following his recent LPs on Time Lag’s Red Records sub division, as well as a string of ultra limited self released CDRs and releases for Yod and Reverb Worship. This is a far gone trip, thats totally out there and very hard to pin down, the closest categorization for this beast would be folk, but its like some total mutated, distorted lurker mirror image. Wild psychedelic strings and heavy bedroom vibes run throughout this delicate beauty. Limited to 300 in pro-printed black and white wraparound sleeve featuring amazing artwork by Michael.

Stunning new LP from Campbell Knele’s post Birchville Cat Motel project. Continues with the vibes set on his superb LP for Dekorder, total psychedelic filth noise. THE PATRON SAINTS – FOHHOH BOHOB LP & 7″
Maine’s cosmic mystery trio captured for eternity, just for you… While everyone & their mother seems to have some sort of bedroom folk/psych project going these days, you’d be hard pressed to find another unit as pure in spirit & process as these here bodies/buddies. One of those rare vortexes of creation existing totally apart from all hype, pressure or pretense; in other words, timeless. Always balanced on that fine and beautiful line between cosmic joke & aching depth. A simple & unadorned unfurling of strummed & fingered instruments, heartaching female vocals, woodland creatures, earthy male vocals, contrasting half written & totally spontaneous songs, twisting lyrics, haunted melancholy, lysergic joy, and a heavy dose of spooked new england lore. In a way, the recording scene itself is an almost perfect parallel to the sounds & vibes captured here: three shadowy figures laugh & sing around a dim campfire.

PEAKING LIGHTS – IMAGINARY FALCONS LP
This is the debut full length LP by Madison Wisconsin’s Peaking Lights. Members Indra Dunis (Numbers/Rah Dunes) and Aaron Coyes (Rah Dunes) created a stunner that’s full of hypnotic analog electronics, pulsing drum sounds, perfectly somber pop layered keys, blown psych guitar, and Indra’s warm drifting vocals. This record is all its own, everything it needs to be, and it won’t disappoint any expectations of its harmony and beauty. Groovy, spacey, heartfelt music for a new age. Art work and silkscreen by Shawn Reed.

THE PRESENT – THE WAY WE ARE 2xLP
The Present is the music project of New York musician and producer Rusty Santos (Panda Bear, Animal Collective), Jesse Lee of Gang Gang Dance/White Magic and Classic pianist Mina.  The Present create a music that seems somehow familiar. Like they’ve already seen your dreams and your nightmares. In order to define the music you’re about to hear it might help to list some of the things it is not: it is not a pop album, neither is it a classical or jazz album. It’s not an ambient album or a rock album either but there are elements of all of these within its dense musical structure. Touchstones include the music of La Monte Young, Dmitri Shostakovich, Wolfgang Voigt, Cluster, Black Dice, Aphex Twin, Can, Arthur Russell, Boredoms and Brian Eno and yet it sounds like none of these.

PSYCHEDELIC HORSESHIT- SHITGAZE ANTHEMS 12″
“I only listen to OK Computer and Cranes. The Fall sucks, DIY sucks, we suck, you suck.” said Matt Horseshit in a recent interview.”Why should anyone listen to you then?” replied the reporter.”Because we’re FUN, duh”. Matt is a dick, of course, and Rich is hilariously clueless mostly, and by all means most of the stuff on this SHITGAZE ANTHEMS EP should’nt work, whether it be the white-boy dub section, the cliche acoustic ballad with backwards guitar, the blatant Dylan rips, or the overall amateur playing, but for some reason these elements that usually reek of pretention and failure actually endear you to the band and their songs.

RACCOO-OO-OON – BEHOLD SECRET KINGDOM LP
Behold Secret Kingdom is the first proper fullength release from Iowa City’s Raccoo-oo-oon after several limited cd-r/tape/vinyl releases. 8songs that takes the band’s psychedelic and dynamic free-form punk from previous releases to new heights. Darker, denser and almost brutal at times, Behold Secret Kingdom is also the heaviest recording they have done. It only takes a few seconds into ‘Black Branches’ and the mood is set for the rest of the album immediately. The trademark tribal-like drums is still present, as is the vocal drones and the furious saxophone swirls. Behold Secret Kingdom is a epic masterpiece, there is really no other way to describe it.
Night People // € 12.50

RACCOO-OO-OON – SAME 2XLP”
Everything’s coming to a end with the swansong from Iowa City’s Raccoo-oo-oon. Following up 2007’s critically acclaimed Behold Secret Kingdom, the final album takes everything up a notch and shows a band taking their last breath and laying down the last bricks in their fairly short history. A fucked up future-prog mayhem that is all over the place and at no known place at all at the same time. Minds are melting, new grounds are covered and things will never be the same. Genuinely uncomfortable, desperate and just beautiful, this album will surely be remembered as the most important recording that Racco-oo-oon ever put to tape. A playtime of close to 75 minutes over 7 tracks.

ROBEDOOR – RAIDERS LP
Following their 2008 East Coast tour with Woods and Pocahaunted the Robedoor agenda has mainly been: hibernating in the City Terrace zone above east LA, adding a drummer/modular synth dealer, and letting the smoke rise. Raiders is the first RBDR LP since 2008’s Endlessly Blazing and is the result of almost six months of slow-burn transformative tape machine meditation helmed by Mr. Ged Gengras. Bummed guitars, loner drone tones, low caverns of reverbed drums and rumble, echo dislocation, and dead voices cascade down into the isolated highways. Song modes are carved out and then left to rot. Features early trio live set staples like “Indo Shadow” and “The Downcast Eye.” You can’t stick your hand in the same black river twice. Change or be changed. LPs in jackets with cover photo by Caitlin C. Mitchell. Final repress of 250 copies on black vinyl.

SECRET ABUSE – VIOLENT NARCISSUS LP
Secret Abuser Jeff Witscher is an enigma wrapped in a riddle rolled in cassette tape and plugged into a battered pair of towering PA speakers. He’s lived everywhere, met everyone, and inspired legions through his loner lifestyle, utopian fashions (“refugee chic”), and spellbindingly intense music. Up from Rainbow Blanket, through to Impregnable, and across the arid plains of Roman Torment and Deep Jew, Witscher’s maintained a singularity of vision and total commitment to execution that has wrecked us, personally, to the point of speechlessness at least a dozen times. Brutal, pensive, blown-out tones crossfade into tortured minor key guitar laments before being slowly subsumed in a droning ocean of choked vocals and sulking, selfish electronics.

SOCIAL JUNK – CONCUSSION SUMMER LP
Somewhere between the Bible Belt brutality of Sword Heaven and Tusco Terror and the sticky southern electronics of Pax Titania or even recent Wet Hair, SJ navigate an interesting interzone, boiling together ominous loops, mangled sax, heavy riffs, various vocal moods (pissed, lost, aggro, angelic), militant tribal drumming, and a mess of electric atmospheres into something genuinely gripping and wholly their own. Concussion Summer rumbles through noisy drum circles, hypnotic thrash, and even a couple creepy ballads, with Noah Anthony and Heather Young’s co-dependent chemistry channeled into eight concise hybrid pieces of perfect/classic JUNK.

Crazy 3-way collaboration from some of America’s best underground musicians… Charalambides Tom Carter is joined by Shawn McMillen, sometimes member of Warmer Milks, with he added power of Starving Weirdos. The four musicians seamlessly blend their own styles of underground bliss outs to sheer perfection. STARVING WEIRDOS – B/P/M Series 1 LP
Absolutely mind melting release from this consistently amazing American duo. Brian Pyle and Merrick McKinlay spent sometime recording legendary Humboldt based pianist Darius Brottman Pyle and McKinlay have a side each on this LP.. Side A opens with some straight piano clinks layered with incidental sounds that occured during recording sessions, creating an amazing feeling of beautiful surrealness , leadings into multi-layered piano movements over and over. Side B begins with an powerful, erratic, forceful playing, coated in psychedelic loops and reversed sounds, then returning to a more straight piano playing. Bizarre, but equally genius and beautiful release. Artwork by artist Mick Wiggins.

SUN ARAW – BEACH HEAD LP
Sun, surf, and self-hypnosis: all the core particles for a perfect Pacific zone dream-day/daydream. And Beach Head is the soundtrack, in case you were wondering. Hot on the heels of May’s masterful coconut-dub Boat Trip EP comes Magic Lantern-bearer Cameron Stallones’ latest loner luau under the Sun Araw umbrella. Unlike his NNF debut, The Phynx, Beach Head drops the drones and cosmic distortion (for the most part) in favor of slippery banana peel smoke stacks, undulating tropical hallucinations, and crystal/coastal moods. It’s a total hit parade, top to bottom, might as well glue it to the turntable and weld the whole rig into yr yellow convertible and park that shit in the sand. Fans of Ducktails, imaginary Jimmy Buffet demos, and long walks on the beach will sleep easy on this grass mat.

SUN ARAW – HEAVY DEEDS LP
This is some sheer blessed out shimmer: SUN ARAW, initially launched solely as a recording project for Magic Lantern guitarist Cameron Stallones, quickly transformed into a stunning live act as well, bolstered by a string of rapturously received LPs – ‘Beach Head’ on Not Not Fun and ‘Boat Trip’ on Woodsist. Drawing equally upon 70s kraut-psych rock, Spacemen 3-style drug blues and woozy tropical world music, Sun Araw’s universe is a rapidly expanding one. Cameron’s electric gospel landed him on a number of prominent music review “Best Of 2008″ lists, and the trend seems to only be beginning.

SUN ARAW / PREDATOR VISION – Split LP
Matt from Ducktails’ psycho-psych band Predator Vision’s vinyl debut after a pair of scorching tapes. A total masterpiece of Funkadelic rhythm guitar, tripped out organ and pulsing percussion.

TOPAZ RAGS – CAPRICORN BORN AGAIN LP
Grey clouds stay grey. Low light situations birth low-lit moods. It’s all bummer clockwork. West Coast lurk-jazz triad Topaz Rags return to vinyl with their debut long player, Capricorn Born Again, an eight-song comedown recorded/mixed from spring-to-fall of ‘09 via a complex 4-track/boombox assemblage method. Everything creaks and hisses, there’s smoke in the air, players at the end of their ropes, lyrics washing over faded raga ballads, slinky electric piano bar depressions, shadow gauze cavern pop. The bell jar is half empty, obviously. Slow dive and sink in. Black vinyl LPs (mastered by Pete Swanson) in jackets designed by Amanda. Edition of 400.

U.S. GIRLS – INTRODUCING…….. LP
If the alluring moniker used by Megan Uremovich conjures images of volleyball teams or cheerleading squads, forget it. Like fellow DIY ingenues Sally Strobelight and Inca Ore, U.S. Girls’ approach is deceptively ethereal and delightfully haunting; lithe, lysergic gamma rays of keyboard murk beamed over percussive bonk sort of resemble Diamanda Galas reinterpreting Suicide’s Red Star. And dig that cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Prove It All Night,” done in such an effortless!

US GIRLS  - GO GREY LP
2nd full -lenght release by U.S. Girls is an even more fully realized excursion into a hazy alternate universe where pop vocals and muzzy scree fuse in harmony. Go Grey conjures up ambient aerosols while luminous kaleidoscopes of sound sizzle, peak, and explode. Megan Remy is a chanteuse from (perhaps) the future, guiding all who choose to sail an evocative trip through her unique aural hallucinogenic landscapes. It’s a journey of lush vistas, warm currents, and complex beauties. 23nd-Century-style, of course. So come aboard and see why U.S. Girls is being hailed the Eno of the ’50s–the 2250s!

V/A MY ESTROGENERATION LP
First ever NNF vinyl compilation (more in the future hopefully?) finds the spotlight landing fairly on the fairer sex, and the glare is glorious. 11 diverse femme musical energies corralled across 12 inches of black vinyl, all exclusive contributions, and the breadth of zones and interzones traversed is a beautiful thing to hear. Carry on my wayward non-sons. LPs in jackets with artwork by Pocahaunted bassist/scholar Diva Dompe, plus a full-color double-sided insert. Edition of 500. This year’s Estrogeneration includes: Zola Jesus, Tickley Feather, Pocahaunted (vintage unused track from Gold Miner’s Daughters sessions), Inca Ore, Topaz Rags, HNY, Talk Normal, Islaja (featuring Samara Lubelski and Blevin Blectum), L.A. Vampires, U.S. Girls, Valet.

WET HAIR – GLASS FOUNTAIN LP
Welcome back. One of NNF’s total favorite active bands return with a second full-length (most of which was recorded during the same sessions that birthed their debut LP, Dream) and we are pleased as spiked fruit punch. The Reed/Garbes duo mainly sticks to their guns, mining the same post-Suicide art-trance vein they perfected on Dream, but with Glass Fountain there’s an added emphasis on the disembodied, oscillator pop mode that Wet Hair often toy with. Fountain’s five tracks include some of the band’s simplest but catchiest songs (“Crucifix In The Waves,” “When The Right Time Comes,” etc), mesmerizing organ melodies over plink-plonky vintage drum machines with weirdo soulful singing and outer space electronics, like an outsider-punk Silver Apples or something. Hard to say exactly what universe Wet Hair are operating in and that’s probably part of why we love it so much. A killer record that gets better each spin. In jackets with art drawn and designed by the band, plus a pro-printed 11×11 insert. Edition of 600 (400 on opaque lavendar vinyl, 200 on black).

WEST COAST POST-ASIATIC COMPILATION 12″ LP
The term Post Asiatic may come across as another ridiculous entry in the dictionary of contemporary sub-genre music but the name is the most appropriate encapsulation for what has easily become the most interesting musical movement in nearly twenty years. Due to space limitations the West Coast Post Asiatic compilation fails to include the majority of artists on the Western Coast of the US who focus on or dabble in Asian/Eastern influenced avant-garde art. However; it offers a glimpse into the fierce beauty and embracing expressionism these artists are conveying. The compilation includes work from Amps for Christ, Soriah, hop-frog’s drum jester devotional, Auto Da Fe, Sikhara & Refrigerator Mothers with sound that travels from electric sitars & winding guitars to tribal animalistic percussion, cyclic drone chanting, gamelan-esque free-spasm metal percussion to dreamy Chinese dulcimers and moon guitars. The marble vinyl is limited to 505 copies and varies in color.

YIKES – WHOA COMAS / BLOOD BOMB 12″ EP
Fucked up gutter-wonk punks Yikes return with a curious 1 sided LP on Labil records called ‘Whoa Comas/Blood Bomb ‘.
